The debate in America about partial-birth abortion did a lot to shift public opinion in a pro-life direction, because it focused attention on what actually happens to the baby during an abortion – and what happens is not pleasant.
On April 18, 2007, the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the federal ban on partial-birth abortion, without the loophole of a health exception.
Abortion advocates want more than to keep Roe vs. Wade intact.
This weekend the Church observes the Feast of Christ the King. It is a feast that acknowledges that Jesus is Lord, not only of individuals, but of nations, empires, cultures, and the entire universe.
In nineteen forty eight, the United Nations published the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, stating that quote “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
The seminary rector called the members of my class in one by one on that peaceful evening. The hallways and chapel of St. Joseph's Seminary (Dunwoodie) in New York were quiet and still.
This week we observe Thanksgiving Day. We rejoice in the God who has given us life and freedom.
Our nation is preparing to observe Thanksgiving Day, a holiday that makes it clear that we are not self-sufficient, but rather dependent on the God who gives us both our life and our freedom.
Happy Thanksgiving!
This weekend we conclude the liturgical year, and begin a new one with the Season of Advent.
